Hostaria
With around 40 seats indoors, arranged in cozy rooms that preserve the original architectural features of the historic center, the Hostaria offers an intimate, welcoming atmosphere—never austere. During the warmer months, the experience is enhanced by an added privilege: 20 outdoor seats set along the majestic wall of Palazzo dei Priori.

CLASSIC MEETS CONTEMPORARY
A Warm and Welcoming Atmosphere
Beneath historic vaulted ceilings and between walls adorned with contemporary artworks, our restaurant welcomes guests into a serene, suspended ambiance. Solid wood tables and corten steel chairs with light cushions—typical of modern Tuscan design—converse with the classic details of Volterra’s past: antique sideboards, crimson armchairs, warm lighting, and ornamental plants that add a touch of life.
The wooden flooring and the natural light streaming through the windows overlooking Via Porta all’Arco complete the harmony of the space—perfect for a quiet dinner, an elegant lunch, or a special moment with a partner or friends.
THE CONCEPT OF THE HOSTARIA
Simple and Traditional, Yet High-Quality
While the word osteria may evoke a simple, rustic place for a quick and humble meal, hostaria—with a touch of playful Latin flair—uses a more noble and ironic term to suggest a refined kind of dining that still embraces conviviality.
Hostaria Il Sacco Fiorentino is a place where simplicity remains at the heart, yet is paired with a deeper care for the quality of the cuisine, the service, and the overall experience.
Where We Are
We are located in the heart of Volterra, on Via Giusto Turazza—an ancient street that connects two symbolic squares of the city: Piazza dei Priori, the seat of civic power, and Piazza San Giovanni, the religious center anchored by the majestic Cathedral.
Our establishment has always been a place dedicated to food and hospitality. These rooms have welcomed travelers, townsfolk, and visitors for over a century. It is one of the oldest restaurants in Volterra, set in an architecturally and historically rich urban environment.
